LITTLE GUN is a bold new play inspired by the true story of Mary Leonard, Oregon’s first female lawyer.
On the Oregon frontier, Swiss immigrant Mary Leonard stands trial for her life. Accused of killing her tyrannical husband, she does the unthinkable—teaching herself American law to mount her own defense. What begins as an act of survival becomes a radical confrontation with a legal system in a territory where women are denied the vote, yet bound to obey the law.
Developed with the generous help of PDX Playwrights and currently being produced as a concert reading for the Fertile Ground Festival of New Works in PDX.
This is the first play in the Pacific Northwest Women trilogy. In development, script available.
